Most of my weight-loss clients have already been on a million diets and so it's not rocket science on my part to assume that you have been too. All these diets promise that have "the answer." Many of rely on some sort of magical food or magical combinations and proportions of foods that they promise will somehow fool your body chemistry that will either melt away pounds or allow you to eat as much of these foods as you want and still lose weight.

They promise but they can't deliver, for several reasons. Most of them teach you how to eat for life by changing your day-to-day eating habits. This is why they are called "diets" they are meant to be for a period of time, and then you go back to your normal way of eating. How much sense does that make?
Your normal way of eating that got you fat in the first place. These diets can be hard to follow for the period of time it takes you to lose all the weight you want to lose. Clients usually tell me they are amazed at the dramatic drop in weight, I say:"Great- then what happened?" They say they got bored with the diet and started to cheat "just a little" and soon after that it was all over.

The reason they got bored with the diets is that they are so limited. In the beginning, this works in your favor, and you lose weight because you cannot stand to eat so many grapefruit or hamburgers or whatever. You lose some weight because you are eating less not because there is some magical thing going on. You will eventually quit this diet because it is unreasonable and unappealing and you start to crave forbidden foods.

Even more upsetting to me-and should be to you, too is that they don't address the metabolism problems. In fact they can make metabolism even worse because they stimulate the starvation response, cause muscle protein rather than fat to be burned, and do not correct carbohydrate sensitivity or hormone imbalance.

What's even worse is they are deficient in important vitamins and minerals that you need to support healthy metabolism. Fad diets come and go, and often come back again with another name.
